We do offer Live Scan (Background check) services by appointment only.
Access to criminal history summary records maintained by the DOJ is restricted by law to legitimate law enforcement purposes and authorized applicant agencies. However, individuals have the right to request a copy of their own criminal history record from the Department to review for accuracy and completeness. Requests from third parties are not authorized and will not be processed.
Some important things to remember when appearing for fingerprints:
1. The appointing authority (Employer) will provide the appropriate form(s) and explain the process.
2. Bring the authorized "Request for Live Scan service form" Must have at least 3 copies.
3. Make an appointment. If you are late you will have to reschedule or WAIT for the next available opening.
4. Valid photographic I.D. MUST be presented at time of service:
Acceptable forms of I.D. are:
1) Driver's License.
2) California Identification Card.
3) Passport (with secondary documentation i.e. Military ID, utility bill, Social Security Card)
5. Fingernails and Rings: Extremely long or curved fingernails may prevent the fingers from properly contacting the printing surface of livescan and may need trimming. No rings on fingers, they can damage the printing surface of the Live Scan.
6. Bandaged or injured fingers: Applicant will need to reschedule their appointment until the injured or bandaged finger can be fingerprinted.
7. There will be a 15.00 fingerprint rolling fee for all applications. The fee is subject to change without notice.
8. Department of Justice fees will be collected at the time of rolling, unless the applicant is fee exempt and/or a billing number is provided. This fee(s) is/are in addition to our rolling fee.

The cost of requesting YOUR criminal history record is $40.00 (including rolling fee)
California Penal Code Sections 11120 through 11127 afford persons an opportunity to obtain a copy of their record, if any, contained in the files of the California Bureau of Criminal Information and Analysis and refute any erroneous or inaccurate information contained therein.

Bring your completed form and an acceptable form I.D. to your appointment.
You may use the information you receive to answer questions regarding past criminal history, or to complete an application or questionnaire. However, this process is not to be used to obtain a copy of your record to furnish to another person or agency for immigration, visa, employment, licensing, or certification purposes (refer to California Penal Code Section 11125).

Once you have received your Record Review response, if you want to challenge the contents of your criminal record, you must complete the "Claim of Alleged Inaccuracy or on completeness" (form BCIA 8706), which will be included with your Record Review response if there is criminal information on your record. Mail the completed form, along with a copy of your criminal history record, to the address indicated on the form. Your challenge must specifically state the basis for the claim of inaccuracy or incompleteness and include any available proof or corroboration to substantiate your claim.

What is Live Scan Fingerprinting?
Live Scan is an inkless electronic fingerprinting captured at a computer (digitizing). Applicant fingerprints are electronically transmitted to the Department of Justice (DOJ) in order to complete a criminal background check. Live Scan technology replaces the slow and “archaic” fingerprinting process of recording fingerprint patterns through a rolling process using ink and paper. However, in many states actual ink fingerprinting is still required.
What is a “Request for Live Scan Service” Form?
It is a government form, identified at the top with “REQUEST FOR LIVE SCAN SERVICE-Applicant Submission” or with the code “BCII 8016”, found at the bottom left-hand corner. This form must be completed prior to being electronically fingerprinted. If you do not have one, contact the agency or person who is requesting you to obtain a Live Scan.
What Should I Bring To Your Live Scan Appointment?
Be sure to bring in all the items listed below, this will help ensure an easy and rapid process when you arrive for your Live Scan Fingerprinting.
Three (3) completed copies of the Request for Live Scan Service Form.
A valid government-issued picture ID, such as a driver’s license or passport. An expired ID is considered not valid.
What if I submitted fingerprints and have not received a response?
Please allow a minimum of thirty days before making a status inquiry. Applicants should check first with the applicant agency that requested the background review since the DOJ sends results directly to the applicant agency. Poor quality fingerprints, records that contain criminal information, erroneous information submitted on the fingerprint transaction, and individuals born before 1920 who have submitted manual fingerprints in the past may delay the reporting of results
How to check your Live Scan results?
Checking your Live Scan results is simple, just call the Department of Justice (DOJ) at (916) 227-4557. Be sure to have your birth date and Automated Transaction Identifier (ATI) number available. The ATI number is at the bottom of the Applicant Live Scan Request form.
Once the call is made, you will be prompted to enter the ATI number; for the letters, enter the corresponding numbers. For your birth date, enter the two digit month, the two digit day, and the four digit year (MM/DD/YYYY).
This will not give you the results of the background check but only the status of the Live Scan.
